Preface -
So It Begins!
August 2015 - June 2016
July 2015: The former shelter in Elmsford, NY, Central Westchester Humane Society (DBA Pets Alive Westchester), makes the devastating announcement that they would be closing their doors. The community of Westchester is devastated, as CWHS, a true no-kill rescue, was in existence since 1932 (DBA PAW since 2010).
After the announcement, former staff members and volunteers joined together to form and incorporate Paws Crossed Animal Rescue.
August 4th 2015: Paws Crossed Animal Rescue Inc. is incorporated!
September 2015: The former facility closes their doors. Rescue comes to a halt and all assets and animals are moved to their other facility in Orange County, New York.
Paws Crossed immediately began rescuing, utilizing wonderful fosters in our community!
October 2015: Paws Crossed Animal Rescue receives our 501(c)3 Determination Letter (in 6 weeks, which we hear is record timing!).
March 2016: After months of negotiations, Paws Crossed signs a “Donation Agreement” with the Town of Greenburgh, NY for the building and property.
June 2016: Paws Crossed signs the closing paperwork on the property and are given the keys to the building!
During this important time period, we worked hard to gather support (financial, physical and emotional) from our community, negotiate for the property, and began planning for a long and successful future. The costs involved in this phase were paid for by those that would be staff, volunteers and our wonderful community.
